Our spirulina farm

Want to grow the superfood of the future on your own windowsill? Then our self-sufficient spirulina farm is just the thing for you! Here you can easily and efficiently cultivate spirulina, a nutrient-rich microalgae, in your own home. Cultivating our spirulina is effortless, the product tastes neutral and it is addable everywhere as a health booster!

Our farm offers a lot of advantages, like:

Environmental friendliness

However, what makes our Spirulina farm truly unique is its positive impact on the environment. The algae in the farm not only produce high quality food, but also a significant amount of oxygen. Through the photosynthesis process, they also sequester CO2, which helps reduce greenhouse gas levels. This not only improves the air quality in your space, but also makes an active contribution to climate protection.

Flexibility

Another advantage of our self-sufficient spirulina farm is its flexible size adjustment. It can be scaled from 500 ml up to 5 liters and fits perfectly on your windowsill. You can customize it completely according to your individual needs.

Stylish addition to your home

Our Spirulina Farm is not only functional, but also aesthetically pleasing. It adds a touch of elegance to any room and is a stylish addition to your home. The design is specially created to seamlessly blend into your home atmosphere.

Our farm system uses natural solar energy to create a closed ecosystem. Together with the container and a small, integrated solar cell, spirulina has the perfect home to grow. All you need is the farm, our specially prepared nutrient solution, fresh spirulina cultures and tap water.
  • Mix it.
  • Put it on the windowsill in the light.
  • Wait a few days.
  • RVoilá - ready for harvest.
  • Start growth again.
How does the harvest work?

Harvest the nutrient-rich spirulina effortlessly every 1-2 weeks with our innovative filter system. The fine mesh in the filter keeps the high quality spirulina liquid in the farm while the small spirulina cells gently flow through. Depending on the size of your farm and the growth condition of the algae, you will achieve a yield of 5-10 tablespoons of this highly concentrated spirulina liquid in one harvest.

The best part is that the farm is able to continue right away with the next growth phase. In this way we ensure a continuous and sustainable production of spirulina in your farm.

Spirulina in your food

Whether in smoothies, cakes or pasta sauces - with its own mild taste, spirulina is a wonderful addition to any dish. The protein content of 60-70% and the abundance of essential minerals and vitamins make the self-produced spirulina algae from our self-sufficient farm a valuable superfood boost for your meals.

Get inspired by the versatile world of spirulina and discover a new dimension of pleasure and health in your kitchen.

Q&A around spirulina
Welcome to the Q & A section! Here we answer your questions about spirulina and our self-sufficient spirulina farm.
Why should I eat spirulina?
Spirulina has been known in scientific circles for years as the superfood of the future. This is not only due to the simple and fast cultivation, but also to the ingredients: Spirulina is one of the most protein-rich creatures with 60-70% protein. In addition, the algae contain numerous essential fatty acids as well as valuable minerals and vitamins. With spirulina you have a real nutrient bomb on one spoon!
What is better about the fresh products than the dried ones?
Compared to the dried form in tablets and powders, which have a strong flavour of their own, fresh spirulina has a mild, fresh taste that can be added to any dish. They also do not clump together in dishes, as is often the case with spirulina powder.
Then there are the ecological benefits: With fresh algae from your windowsill, you are helping to minimise plastic packaging, significantly shorten transport routes and therefore reduce CO2 emissions - for life! In addition, several studies have now shown that dried products often don't contain what they say on the label - a problem you won't have with your own farm - hence our motto: You grow it, you know it.
What does fresh spirulina taste like? Does it add flavour to the food?
In its pure form, fresh spirulina has a flavour of its own, similar to biting into a lettuce leaf. However, as soon as the algae is stirred into any food, you no longer taste anything.
How often and thoroughly should you clean the farm?
When harvesting, you can filter your culture directly into the second farm jar, so that at every harvest (i.e. about every 10 days) the jar is changed. The used glass can then simply be rinsed out or even put in the dishwasher and used fresh for the next harvest. With this rhythm, contamination should not occur.
Is the farm mobile?
Due to the self-sufficiency of the farm, it works wherever there is enough light for the algae. However, the live culture should always be transported carefully to avoid unnecessary stress on the cells.

Ben Schwedhelm

Founder and Biology brainie

"I believe that through MySpirulina we can help algae become a staple food of the future, creating a more sustainable world."

Ben is an enthusiastic biologist in Kiel, Germany. As part of the team at MySpirulina, he is helping to realize the vision of a more sustainable future by growing algae. As the food of the future, he sees algae as an opportunity to combat rapidly advancing climate change while growing healthy, protein-rich food. His personal interest in algae was sparked about four years ago when he began cultivating and eating fresh spirulina on his own windowsill. The ease of cultivation and high yield rate immediately excited him. In addition to his hobby of scuba diving, Ben's overall diet is healthy and balanced - perfect for spirulina with its high protein concentration and abundance of minerals.

Elisabeth Steinbach

Co-founder and marine science enthusiast

"Algae has a huge, undiscovered potential that we can only tap if we inspire more people to engage with it more deeply by growing it themselves."

Eli is a passionate biology student at Christian Albrechts University in Kiel, Germany, with great enthusiasm for marine science and sustainable use of aquatic resources. The student with the green thumb also has a passion for water in her free time, where she goes diving. She is convinced that algae have an undiscovered potential that can only be exploited if more people take an interest in it. She too an important part of the MySpirulina team to get more people interested in algae. In Eli's eyes, MySpirulina can convince more people because it offers a different approach to algae: grow it yourself, harvest it yourself!

Yannic Lott

Founder and computer science enthusiast

"I'm motivated by the opportunity to combine technology and healthy eating while making spirulina accessible to everyone in such a simple way."

Yannic studied computer science and sports at the TU-Darmstadt and brings extensive IT experience. As part of the startup team, he is responsible for IT and product development. The autonomous function of the product to make clean food and energy affordable for everyone fascinates him. Yannic strongly believes that MySpirulina can change the way we eat and use energy sources. It excites him every day to work on a project that fuses technology and nutrition.

Philine Schaefer
Co-founder and Business Administration Mind

"For me, MySpirulina is the perfect way to combine my enthusiasm for sustainable entrepreneurship and healthy nutrition."

The Passau student of International Cultural and Business Studies with a focus on business administration and sociology has always been interested in founding. It all started when she sold things from her parents' attic as a teenager and discovered her enthusiasm for designing, selling and negotiating. She also took a closer look at sustainability and social and sustainable entrepreneurship during her studies. So when she first caught wind of the idea three years ago, she was on board. In her free time, she has been playing theater for a long time and is very into sports. That's why she finds spirulina a super exciting superfood: healthy, high in protein, sustainable. And above all, one thing: it probably doesn't get more regional than this!

We are four students who have one thing in common: the passion for spirulina. Swipe to get to know us!
