Spirulina yeast plait – A delicious treat with extra nutrients
Ingredients:
- 500g flour
- 100g sugar
- 1 pinch of salt
- 1 packet of dry yeast (alternatively 25g fresh yeast)
- 250ml lukewarm milk
- 2 eggs
- 100g soft butter
- 2 tbsp fresh spirulina
- Raisins (optional)

Prepare the dough:
Combine flour, sugar, and salt in a large bowl. Add the dried yeast (or fresh yeast dissolved in lukewarm water) and mix briefly. Add the lukewarm milk, eggs, softened butter, and fresh spirulina, and knead everything into a smooth dough. Optionally, stir in the raisins.

Let the dough rise:
Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, until it has risen significantly. Then knead it briefly and divide it into three equal parts. Shape each into long strands and braid them together.

Bake:
Place the plaited loaf on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and let it rise for another 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 180°C. Brush the loaf with a little milk and, if desired, sprinkle with flaked almonds. Bake for about 30-35 minutes, until golden brown. Let it cool on a wire rack.
